The Person
Hey, I’m Laura. I'm a mother of 2 boys, a partner, and a lover of the ocean and nature. I love to get outdoors and move my body and live by the phrase ‘you never regret going for a swim’. I am a homebirth mumma, and have coslept with with both my babes - and there is no judgement here for any choices different from my own.
My journey into mother has been massive, and has changed me to my core. Knowing becoming a mother might rock me, I dove into researching everything about matrescence and birth, and even with all the knowledge I gained, my first birth did not go to plan ending in emergency ceaserean leaving me with lots to process. I went deeper on the journey through my second pregnancy and with the right support I was able to have my second bub at home. I came out of that birth changed again, and this time with a deep strength as well as a passion to support others as they navigate this profound phase of their own lives.
The Therapist
I have been trained as a person-centred psychotherapist with additional training in IFS (Internal Family Systems) ,ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), somatic psychotherapy and expressive therapies such as art and play therapy and draw inspiration from fields of attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, polyvagal theory and many more. I have been supporting families for over 10 years.
I am known for my warmth and ability to hold space. In practice I meet each person where they are at and am guided by their subjective experience, providing a safe container to allow hidden or buried parts emerge, be heard, processed and/or expressed. I have a deep trust in the healing process innate in each of us and honour the wisdom that our bodies hold, drawing upon our senses to guide us in the therapeutic process. I also honour the social context that surrounds mothers and how that impacts our journey into mother.
I strongly believe this kind of therapeutic work can be preventative just as much as it is healing, especially as we enter new phases and challenges in life and so you are welcome here wherever you may be on your journey to healing and thriving.
