Therapy for women
Because you need someone who gets it
Being a woman in this world comes with its own set of beauty and challenges. Our hormones cycle, as do our emotions. The expectations placed on us by family and society can be limiting, and take us so far away from who we really are underneath it all. That's often where the tension lies. It shows up in us when we are performing or responding in ways that suit others rather than in line with who we really are.
This tension can show up as a racing mind, rage, intense emotions and difficulty slowing down. It can be further exacerbated by the changes we go through, whether it be on the path of motherhood or as we enter the rite of passage of perimenopause and menopause. It might feel like you're living a life you created, but not quite the life that fits you. This is where we slow down enough for you to notice what's happening underneath, the tightness in your chest that comes before you can name why. From there, the patterns you've been living your whole life start to become visible, and once we start to see them and feel them, there's room to respond differently than you have before.
What brings women to this work
Whether motherhood is part of your story or not, this is about you as a woman. You might feel like you're standing at a precipice, sensing that something needs to shift. You may be deep into a career that no longer feels like yours or just starting out, or standing at the edge of perimenopause or menopause feeling the gravity of this big transition. Or maybe you're just noticing that life isn't feeling how you'd like it to and you know you need to do something about that. You don't need a crisis to reach out. Whatever's stirring for you, however loud or quiet, is enough of a reason to start.
Anxiety — the racing mind that won't switch off, even when nothing is technically wrong
Depression — the flatness or heaviness that sits underneath everything else, even when you can't point to a reason
Perimenopause and menopause — the shifts in mood, sleep, and sense of self that so often go unnamed
Burnout — running on empty for so long that slowing down feels impossible rather than restful
People-pleasing — losing track of your own wants somewhere between everyone else's
Low self-esteem — the sense that you have to earn your place, your rest, your worth
Grief — including the kind that doesn't come with a funeral, a relationship, an identity, or a version of your life that didn't happen
Big life transitions — divorce, a career change, a diagnosis, becoming an empty nester, anything that's rewritten who you are
This work draws on the same body-led approach you can read more about here on the Meet Laura page, using a mix of somatic therapy and Internal Family Systems. It is often deep work and takes time and consistency. We generally meet weekly or fortnightly, in person in Cronulla or online across Australia. You'll find full session details, including pricing, on the fees page.
FAQs
How does therapy help with anxiety or a racing mind?
This work is about slowing down enough to tune in to what your body is already trying to tell you, before it has to get loud to get your attention. Anxiety often shows up as noise because something underneath hasn't been heard yet, so we work with what's present in your body, not just the racing mind on the surface.
Can therapy help during perimenopause and menopause?
Yes. This isn't just a stage to manage the symptoms of, it's a genuine rite of passage, one of the biggest identity shifts a woman moves through in the second half of her life. Therapy meets the whole of that transition, not only what your body is going through, but who you're becoming on the other side of it, the version of you with more room for your own needs than you've had before.
How many sessions will I need?
There's no set number. Some women come for a few months to move through a specific stage, others stay longer as new layers surface. We'll work out what's right for you as we go.
If any of this feels like it's speaking to you, I'd be honoured to support you through it.
